To prevent children in his hometown from going astray, Coach Hsu Sheng-Ming developed the "Meinong Little League Ten-Year Plan" using his expertise in baseball. However, in 2013, Coach Hsu tragically passed away due to cardiogenic shock. His wife, Hsieh Jung-Yao, who now serves as the chairperson of the Hsu Sheng-Ming Baseball Development Association, established the Hsu Sheng-Ming International Little League Tournament to carry on his vision.
Now in its 12th year, the tournament continues to embody the passion and dedication of "Baseball Magician" Coach Hsu, pushing Taiwan’s grassroots baseball forward. Deeply moved by this spirit, the Aki-Masa Foundation and Mizuno Taiwan have joined forces to promote youth baseball in alignment with Coach Hsu’s ideals. They advocate for a strong sports culture, enrich young players’ school life, and support the tournament by providing uniforms and caps to the top four teams.
This year, teams from Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea were invited to Taiwan for international exchange. Participating teams included the Hong Kong Bluetails, Korea’s Suncheon Namsan Little League, Seoul Little League, and Japan’s Joto Little League. Additionally, a special baseball clinic featured three distinguished coaches—Chang,Tai-Shan, Hsiao,Yi-Chieh, and Hsu,Feng-Pin—who provided engaging instruction. The atmosphere was lively, and Japan’s Joto Little League,Taishin Shibasaki, shared, "Japan has many similar baseball clinics, but they tend to be more serious. I really enjoy the fun and relaxed environment of Taiwan's baseball clinic, where I can absorb more knowledge and skills."
Meanwhile, congratulations to Coach Hsu’s hometown team, the Kaohsiung Meinong Little League, for advancing to the Top 16 after two years. Although they were eliminated in the single-elimination stage, their performance earned high praise from the coaching staff. Ultimately, Taoyuan Gui Shan secured the championship with an 11-7 victory over the formidable Seoul Little League, keeping the trophy in Taiwan.
The tournament results
